Crisis Counselor - Full Time & Relief (211,108) Lewiston $1,000 SIGN-ON BONUS*

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Crisis Counselor is responsible for emergency psychological assessment of individuals in crisis for purpose of referral for in-patient services, community support services or other follow-up through telephone or face-to-face consultation.  


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides mental health services to children, adolescents, adults, the elderly and their families in crisis, including emergency room consultation and collaboration, evaluation, intervention, and crisis outreach in the consumer's home, the community, and the crisis center.
  • Provides active follow-up and continuing support to persons served; confers with doctors, advocates, and support services; engages outside services as needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation for outreach; uses personal vehicle for agency-related business.
  • Interfaces with emergency services systems.
  • Performs service-related administrative tasks, including case record development and maintenance, report writing, and time documentation.
  • Keeps abreast of community and network services in order to provide consultation to referral sources and other service providers.
  • Records telephone and walk-in requests for service referred; screens referred requests for possible mobile crisis response; responds to calls on crisis line and summarizes all crisis line conversations.
  • Responds to follow-up contacts from consumers.
  • Performs staff and care-related tasks, including mandatory participation in program meetings.
  • Responsible for understanding of DSM/V TR.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Associate's degree in related or unrelated field of study and prior social services work experience and/or crisis assessment training required. 

Must have MHRT-CSP certification active at time of employment.

Must possess a valid State of Maine driver's license.
