The MST Counselor provides home-based, short-term, intensive family-oriented clinical intervention for families where a child is at risk of removal from the home or is returning to the home working from a multi-systemic therapy focus.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*
Demonstrates commitment to the mission of the agency with a strong understanding and respect for the goals of agency activities.
Provides direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with the principles and practices of Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST).
Conducts MST assessments, including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context.
Engages primary caregiver and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.
Adheres to MaineCare and other contractual regulations for plans of care, when appropriate.
Maintains clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrates compliance with the nine MST Principles and the MST Analytic Process.
Utilizes the consumer's electronic health record (EHR) to ensure that documentation is complete, accurate, timely and meets regulatory and agency standards.
Follows policies and procedures with regard to the EHR to ensure that the services provided are consistent with best practices, assessment and/or treatment goals.
Supports the consumer's right to make decisions related to his/her plan of care.
Ensures that consumers and their families understand their rights regarding confidentiality and that the rights of consumers are protected as delineated in applicable standards, policies, and procedures.
Implements a problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process, while ensuring that all treatments are both clinically sound and cost effective.
Carries out therapeutic treatments and procedures according to established care plans; agency, unit, and program policies and procedures; professional standards; and within the scope of practice of the employee's professional license.
Educates and instructs consumers and significant others in prevention and rehabilitative measures appropriate for the consumer's care and safety.
Assesses changes in the condition of the consumer and
modifies the plan of care
Refers consumers to other professionals or services as
appropriate to ensure
Collaborates with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and cooperation throughout MST treatment.
Discontinues services appropriately, referring for additional follow-up services from health care community, when warranted.
Participates in all MST training, supervision and consultation activities.
Participates in rotational on-call responsibilities as required by the program.
Interacts with other Tri-County Mental Health Services programs for referrals, as necessary.
Maintains and utilizes knowledge of community resources.
Provides public education and professional consultation services, when appropriate.
Uses personal vehicle for agency related business.
Promotes and fosters effective relations, both inside and outside of the agency.
May provide court testimony, as necessary.

Adheres to the agency's Risk and Safety Management Programs.
Adheres to the agency's Organizational Standards for Performance (see attached).
Functions in a cost-effective manner with regard to the utilization of time, supplies and other agency resources.
Attends meetings and supervisions as required and necessary for the position.
May perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Master' Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or a related field required. Reliable transportation, a valid Maine driver's license and computer proficiency also required. By approved exception, a related Bachelor's degree and related child & family experience may also satisfy education and experience requirements.
Knowledge of family systems and solution-based modalities is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in temperature, noise, odors, etc.; may also be subjected to unpredictable environments with extremes in temperature, noise, odors, weather conditions, etc.
Regular use of computer keyboards, telephone and operating office machines, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
Occasional lifting and carrying of supplies, files, documents, records, etc.
Required to travel in personal vehicle in all types of weather.
